Our next talk takes place on Thursday 21st November at 7.30 in Cromarty West Church Hall, when the speaker will be Jonathan McColl.
Jonathan is Irish-Canadian with good Highland ancestry, now based in Dingwall. In his day job he trains people in software applications, but when let out may be seen with hat, talc and spade in graveyards noting monumental inscriptions. He has worked on Dingwall's historical record and family trees and has given talks to various groups.
This illustrated talk will show how Jonathan developed an interest in his own family history, starting from the encouragement of his grandmother. He explores the different walks of life of his ancestors in the places where they were born and grew up to live and work, and where their adventures took them. He will share the research methods he employs, which anyone can use for their own enjoyent, and add their own pieces to the giant jigsaw of history.
