Forthcoming Exhibition – High Days and Holidays: Highland Journeys
A Call to Arms (or possibly knitting needles!)
On Saturday 28th March 2015 Hugh Miller’s Birthplace Cottage & Museum opens for the start of the season with an exhibition of creative work, entitled High Days and Holidays: Highland Journeys. We need your help! We are calling for exhibits.
This year, Hugh Miller’s Museum concentrates on the theme of Journeys, while Scotland as a whole has a national theme of Food and Drink. So, we are looking for artists, writers, crafters, and creators to interpret one or both of this pair of themes and to submit a piece of work for the exhibition.
Think about some of your own journeys. Were they long or short? Dreaded or anticipated? Ordinary or extraordinary? How did you travel? What did you wear? What did you take with you? What did you have to eat or drink on the way?
To set you off thinking, a couple of examples from the museum: Alix, the property manager remembers always having Lucozade as a child on long car trips as they set out too early for breakfast. Volunteer Kirstie, has fond memories of hilarious travels with family and dog, Fred; also a taste adventure in Tunisia called a Brik, which is thin pastry with a whole egg inside. Sometimes when she bites into crispy pastry for a split second she wonders if she is about to taste egg...
Pieces for inclusion could be a painting, photograph, knitting, crocheting, a sculpture, poem, song lyrics, or a short story. This is by no means an exhaustive list. Let your imagination run wild, the world is your oyster! We do, however, have a size restriction: items must be small enough to be easily carried by one person.
The exhibition is open for completed pieces and for work in progress. All skill levels are welcome across all age ranges (Primary, Secondary and Adult). There will be small prizes for the best pieces. All exhibits will be returned to their creators.
