WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE DIGGING STOPS? SEMINAR IN CROMARTY 9 MAY 2015

The Cromarty Medieval Burgh Community Archaeology Project will be holding a research seminar, "What happens when the digging stops?" This will be in the Cromarty West Church Hall (just behind the church) on Saturday, May 9th 2015 from 10am until 4pm. Coffee/ tea will be provided with a wine reception at the end of the day. There will be a lunch break during the day. The seminar is FREE and donations are welcomed.

While excavations from the past couple of years have produced a wealth of information with regards to the origins and settlement of the town, there is much more work involved in the interpretation of our findings. This includes specialist analysis and targeted research. During the seminar, with the help of several experts, we will be looking at the ways that we can utilise historical documentation to better understand the archaeological and documentary results. The seminar will be led by the project team along with special guests Professor Richard Oram, professor of medieval and environmental history from Stirling University, Dr David Alston, local historian and John Barrett, archivist and historian. The event will help us all learn more about the process of historical research and the history and archaeology of Cromarty - contributing to the overall research objectives of the Cromarty Medieval Burgh Community Archaeology Project.
