Steven Birch and Mary Peteranna
Thursday 21st April 2016, 7.30pm, West Church Hall, Cromarty A short AGM will be followed by the final talk of the season presented by CMBCAP co-directors, Steven Birch and Mary Peteranna, who will update the audience on the 2015 excavations and results. The third season of the Project has provided further intriguing insights into the layout and function of the Burgh and has once again engaged significant numbers of volunteers and brought Archaeology to a wider audience.
Steven Birch is a Director of West Coast Archaeological Services and has been working on contract, community and research-based archaeological projects for the past 15 years. He has also co-directed two research-based excavations on the island of Skye, at High Pasture Cave and the Fiscavaig Rock Shelter, both of which have provided a wealth of detail relating to prehistoric settlement and ritual activities. Mary Peteranna joined AOC in 2014 from Ross and Cromarty Archaeology Services (RoCAS), a consultancy she co-founded in 2010, and is currently operations manager in AOC's Inverness office. Mary trained in the U.S, studying archaeology at Boston University whilst training in the US Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps. After 4 years of service in the U.S. Navy, she moved to Scotland and returned to the field of archaeology. She has recently managed the archaeological works associated with the River Ness flood alleviation scheme and at the Pictish fortification of Craig Phadraig.
